EYE DYE

The group consists of four people, André Lourenço, André Soares, Duarte Cabral, all from IST, and me Susana Câmara, from FBAUL.

What is Eye Die?

Eye Die is a 2D-Side Scrolling Adventure set in a futuristic Los Angeles. It follows the story of Joe, an average mid-district worker that is investigating his wife’s death after her corpse was found in the lower district of LA.

One week after the murder, Joe receives a package containing Laura’s cybernetic eye and one anonymous letter with the phrase “Find what they don’t want you to know”. In a fit of rage, Joe rips his own eye off and puts Laura’s in the now empty eye-socket. He then proceeds to watch the recording of Laura’s last 10 seconds of life.

Filled with sorrow and rage, he decides to make his way through the LA districts looking for answers...

Player Personas

We will have 3 player personas, a guy named Joe, he will be the Mastermind-Conqueror; A girl named Annah, she will be the Seeker-Mastermind; and Jack, who will be the Seeker-Conqueror.

Gameplay

Explore the Environment, talking with other characters, using the detective mode and picking up items, all of this with Plot progression.

Aesthetic

The game design will be done in a Futuristic pixel-art style.

Design Goals

- Create a dystopian world with a cyberpunk aesthetic and a high emphasis on a neo noir feel.

- Dynamic narrative that offers a sense of progression throughout the story and world based on the player dialogue choices and actions.

- Environment exploration and analysis emphasized by the use of Detective mode.

- Create on the players a sense of melancholy and isolation.

Influences

Our game concept has been inspired by existing games, movies and books, such as "The Last Night (2018)", "Batman: Arkham Asylum (2009)", "Blase Runner 2049 (2017)", "Chinatown (1974)", and "The Red Strings Club (2018)".

Group Tasks

The programming and building of the game will be done by the IST team.

The game design and animation will be done by me.

March 30th 2018

Here is a little update. The work is in stand by for now, because the IST team has already done the characters and some scenarios and they where pretty good, so I just did some little changes on them, for now. By now they were just doing arrangements on the game's programme, but in a few days I will start doing the animation on the game, when they are done with all the programming things. So, for now, we have some scenarios and especific characters that will appear on the game, they will suffer some update but for now they are like this:

SCENARIOS

Here is a new update!

My team told me to focus on 3 specific scenes, two are done, like I show on the images below, and the other one it's in progress, it's a new one that they asked me to do.

So they told me that they want the scenarios to be more dark and with a lot of neon lights, based on the movie "Blade Runner 2049". So I did the changes, putting some cracks on the walls, darking the colors, putting lights and neon boards and posters, keeping the futuristic and dark look. Now I'm working on the third scenario, that is a prolongation of the central street of the game. After this is done I will work on the characters.

Goodbye and see you on Mojo!!

May 15th 2018

Hello again! And for the last time I'm here to speak a little bit about these experience. In this work I did the art part, the 2D futuristic pixel art scenarios and characters. I did the schemes, did all in photoshop, put the neon lights and the dark ambients.

This project was really fascinating, I didn't had the knowledge on the game area so all of this was new for me, but I think I did it pretty well. On the end all combine worked fine. The MOJO was amazing, all the games and all the experiences, seeing all the work and effort put in there and the joy on player's faces made me have a really good time.

Hope to see you on the next MOJO, Goodbye!
